When Should You Keep Quiet and Not Speak Anything?

Not many people are comfortable with keeping mum and not speaking anything. But certain occasions demand it. Let us find out what those occasions are.

Keep mum when you get angry or are anxious.

Anger is an emotion that can rob the peace of mind of people. In fact, there are several families and people who have lost their career or development opportunities and even their lives thanks to the negative impact of this emotion. Even if you get angry with your enemies or those who have harmed you, it is not they who will be affected. It is you and your health that will be negatively impacted.

The most important point you should remember is that things may not always go your way. When such situations arise, the first emotion you will have is "fear." But why at all do you fear? It is because of insecure feelings you will start fearing. There may be several reasons for such insecure feelings. Jealousy, constant thinking about the future, and "comparison syndrome" are major factors that contribute to insecure feelings. Once you allow such feelings to creep into your mind, you will start feeling fear and anxiety and this provides a lot of scope for the most dangerous emotion that is spelled as "anger."

Unfortunately and most of the time, the underlying fear in your mind forces you to imagine several things, more particularly, negative ones. If you look back after some time or after a few months or years, you will be amazed to find that those things you have imagined have not happened at all. So, instead of fearing and getting angry, you should keep mum. On the other hand, if you vent your anger, you may have to face the implications, the impact of which may sometimes be severe.

Let us take two situations as examples. Your boss may be biased and may not give you the credit that you feel is due to you. Another example is your spouse, children, friends, or other relatives may come up with demands that you may not be able to fulfill.

In the first example, you need not get angry over your boss because very soon, she will realize that you are the one who deserves the credit that she has wrongly given to someone else. Or you will soon get another opportunity to prove your capability. This means you are committing a grave blunder and doing injustice to yourself by outsourcing your happiness or self-confidence to your boss or what she thinks.

In the second one, you need not become anxious and worry if your spouse, children, friends, or relatives will leave you just because you do not fulfill their demands. Sooner or later, you can certainly convince them of the reasons behind your inability to fulfill their demands. Never, never forget the fact that anxiety does not solve anything. On the other hand, this emotion can weaken you mentally and physically.

Do not speak out when you have paranoid feelings.

Paranoia is a strange feeling and it belongs to the category of "scarcity complexes." If you experience this feeling quite often, you may start imagining that all your efforts, regardless of the tasks for which you put them in, will be in vain if someone deliberately plays troublesome tricks. Instead of lamenting or feeling frustrated over this, keep quiet, and take deep breaths frequently. This will help you view things from the right perspective.

You may say that keeping quiet on these occasions can cause stress which in turn may exhaust you. Though it is true, you have other ways to prevent yourself from getting stressed up. The best among the ways is to divert your mind to more pleasant things or incidents that have happened in your life. If you adopt this strategy, your mind will relax. This will bring back the missing smile on your face. Of course, you have to practice sincerely for reaching this level. So, practice, practice, and keep practicing till you master this strategy.
