Crisis Survival

Everyone including you may certainly have faced crisis situations in your lives. But being intrepid souls, all of us strive hard to navigate and come out of those treacherous and doozy situations. Of course, mastering the art of weathering these storms is a theoretically ideal situation as it is a highly daunting task. It is during such circumstances you receive different types of suggestions from various quarters. Unfortunately, not all those who intrusively provide you with suggestions are positive-minded. Some of the suggestions may sound pretty apocalyptic. The suggestions these naysayers shamelessly and euphemistically call 'advice,' may fill your imagination with gloomy images such as failure, losses, etc.

If you belong to the hoi polloi, you will become hostage to the menace of negativity and so, will start feeling as if you are sinking into the melancholy swamp. On the contrary, if you belong to the polar opposite side, if your credentials say that you are sane and positive-minded, or even if you have a smidgen of inclination to survive and grow, you will willingly embrace only those suggestions that resonate with your positivity.

The unfortunate fact is that in this unforgiving world, people laud only those who succeed and deride those who fail. So, how should you survive crisis situations? Before finding out the answers to this question, let us know the effects of the tragically negative images the naysayers can create in your mind.

What is the impact of such negative images?

One of the most tragic effects of negative imagination is that your mind will be filled with fear and so, you may not be able to move full ballast on your plans. This means you tend to tread carefully. Sure, you must never be extremely aggressive and take audacious steps with chutzpah. But at the same time, fearing at every step is a bane not only for your survival but for your growth as well. Remember that just one bad decision is enough to ruin everything.

So, how to survive crisis situations?

Here is a real story. On January 8, 2011, a Jared Lee Loughner shot Gabby Giffords, a Congresswoman, at point-blank range. Doctors did a brain surgery on Giffords and after the surgery, she was purposely left to remain in a medically-induced coma. Doctors felt that this coma would help her brain repair on its own. Giffords opened her eyes after 4 days. But she could neither see nor speak. The amazing end to this story was that her brain could craft new pathways and she could gradually become normal.

This is exactly what happens when you face crisis situations. Unfortunately, crisis situations have the habit of brewing quietly and striking you at the most unlikely hour. But you need not worry. Even if they confront you suddenly, you can rely on your brain which will start working at extra speed, Especially, when there is an adrenaline rush in your system, the neurons of your brain will start moving at galloping speed. It is then you become highly creative. This means you will get several ideas that may help you surmount the situations.

You have to do some work now. You must start noting down the ideas that dawn in your mind. The purpose of doing this exercise is that some of the ideas may flash momentarily and disappear. You may forget them. Further, when you do this exercise, your brain will start working at full throttle.

Let us assume that you get 10 ideas that can help you tide over your situation. You can weigh and contemplate the pros and cons of each of them and choose the best among them. For this, you must work backward and start from the worst that can happen if you do not solve the problem. Once you know the worst, you can easily work backward and try to improve upon the situation by opting for and implementing the best idea.
