It is true that depression is caused by many factors. But, many of us do not know the fact that it can be caused by some of the foods we eat also. In these researches, it has been found that the foods that are got in the Mediterranean region are capable of controlling depression. There are fewer people who are affected by depression in this region. Fruits, vegetables, fish, grains and a few other foods are used more by people living in this part of the world. Therefore, it becomes evident that if you use continuously consume such natural foods, you will never be affected by depression.

A question may arise how other factors that contribute to depression can be controlled because you are focusing on the food aspect alone. Hence, it is a conclusive evidence that foods that contain these nutrients are good antidotes for depression.

A study conducted in Spain has concluded that "It is very possible that this combination of omega-3 fatty acids, together with other unsaturated fats and antioxidants in olive oil and nuts, flavonoids and other phytonutrients from vegetables and herbs, and group B vitamins that can be found in classic Mediterranean diet can prevent depression."

In addition to including foods that contain these nutrients to your diet, you should also abstain from habits like drinking. Many people wrongly think that alcohol can control depression. Nothing can be farther from truth. It is true that when you get intoxicated, you become oblivious of the surroundings and you temporarily forget some of your thoughts also. But, once the effect of alcohol goes away and you get sober, these thoughts that cause depression will start attacking you with more vigor.

Therefore, by choosing the right foods and abstaining from habits like drinking, you can control depression and lead a happy life.
